| Moodle | “Moodle is a learning platform designed to provide educators, administrators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalised learning environments.” | If you want a learning management system that you control, that outputs standard HTML, is accessible, and is easy to use for administrators, teachers and students, then you want Moodle. Moodle also implements open standards, including Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) for sharing courses. It's a fully featured LMS that is not only used by universities and TAFEs, but also at least three State Libraries (SLQ, SLV and SLWA). If you host the system yourself, if you have the technological capability, then costs can be minimal. Any ordinary hosting company could be used if you do not wish to have an 'in-house' server. Alternatively, if you host with a major Australian Moodle hoster, it costs only $505/month for support and hosting for 5000 users. A major commercial LMS will surely cost a lot more. Prices though are not publicly available; what you pay for your 10 courses and 100 users, might be twice as much as they next institution with 200 users and 20 courses. | Sakai |
